Universal Studios Japan has done something it has never done before: it has let Tomie into the park.

For Halloween Horror Nights 2026, USJ has paired Junji Ito's most famous creation with the Street Zombies — the roaming horde that has defined the event for fifteen years — in a first-ever collaboration. The merchandise went on sale on 9 September 2026, two days before the event itself opened, and it is one of the most talked-about drops of USJ's 25th anniversary year.

Why this collaboration is a first

Halloween Horror Nights, meanwhile, hits its fifteenth year in 2026, with the Street Zombie as its enduring symbol.

Putting the two together is the kind of thing USJ saves for an anniversary. 2026 is the park's 25th, and the season has been programmed as a run of high-profile crossovers. Tomie is the headline.

The artwork

The whole collection is built on a single piece of art drawn specially for this collaboration. In it, Tomie stands at the front of the zombie crowd, wearing the same high-school uniform as the new student zombies introduced to the Street Zombie line-up this year. Under one arm she carries a plush of Hamikuma, the Halloween Horror Nights mascot.

It is a deliberately unsettling image, and a very funny one. The uniform makes her one of the horde; the plush makes her look like she is enjoying herself far too much. That tension — cute object, wrong hands — is what gives the series its personality, and it is why the collection reads as Halloween merchandise rather than straight horror goods.

What's in the collection

Graphic T-shirt The centrepiece. The collaboration artwork is printed large, accompanied by original Tomie dialogue written specifically for this release — lines that exist nowhere else in the manga. For Tomie readers, that detail alone makes the shirt the most collectible item in the range.

Face towel The same artwork on a practical, everyday piece. Face towels are a staple of Japanese theme-park merchandise for a reason: they get used, and they travel well.

Notebook with sticker set A bound notebook packaged with stickers featuring the collaboration art. One of the easier items to keep sealed as a collectible, and one of the more giftable pieces in the series.

Cosmetic keychain with charm The most design-led item. Rather than reproducing the full illustration, it isolates Tomie's famous eyes and her signature lines onto a charm attached to a small cosmetic pouch — subtle enough for daily carry if you want the reference to stay between you and the people who get it.

Why it's difficult to buy

USJ has placed this collection under its strictest purchase conditions.

Inside the park, items are sold at Studio Style and other event stores, and buyers must present a valid same-day ticket or annual pass. Online, the items appear on USJ's official store but sit behind "park visitor registration" — you have to register your presence inside the park on the day, after which you can order until 23:45 that night. Delivery addresses must be in Japan. Purchases made for resale are explicitly refused, and quantity caps apply per item.

USJ has also stated that sold-out items may or may not return, and that no restock schedule will be published. Once Halloween Horror Nights closes on 8 November 2026, the series is finished.

For anyone outside Japan, that adds up to a collection that is effectively unreachable without being physically at the park during a nine-week window.
