Who Are the Young Oysters?
The Young Oysters are characters from Disney's 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland — specifically from the story-within-a-story that the twins Tweedledee and Tweedledum tell Alice. In the tale, a group of baby oysters follow the Walrus and the Carpenter on a walk along the beach, charmed by their promises... only for things to take a turn nobody saw coming.
Despite — or maybe because of — their slightly tragic backstory, the Young Oysters have become a sleeper-hit favourite in Japan's Disney fan community. Their round shells, big eyes, and endlessly varied expressions make them some of the most "iyashi-kei" (healing, soothing) characters in the entire Disney lineup — and Disney Store Japan has leaned all the way into that charm with BABY OYSTERS 2026.
What's New in BABY OYSTERS 2026?
This year's collection features completely new, hand-drawn artwork in a soft, relaxed illustration style — described by Disney Store Japan as "yurui" (ゆるい), meaning gently loose and unpolished in the most charming way. The lineup includes:
Plush & Keychains Plush keychains featuring the Young Oysters, each with its own distinct expression and personality — part of what makes this character group so collectible. Fans often pick up several just to get the full range of faces.
Bags A plush-textured tote bag with dimensional embroidered Young Oyster motifs, each oyster shown mid-chat with a different expression.
Drinkware A frosted, pastel-gradient water bottle in a practical 590ml size, printed with the Young Oysters chatting together, complete with 100ml measurement markings for everyday use.
Accessories Puffy stickers perfect for collecting and trading, smartphone straps combining beads with Young Oyster charms, and hair ties.
Secret Collection A six-design pouch series that can also be clipped onto bags — a format Disney Store Japan uses for some of its most collectible "which one will I get" releases.
The 2026 collection also continues to feature fan-favourite extended characters from the Young Oyster world, including the Walrus and Grandmother Oyster.
When Did BABY OYSTERS 2026 Launch?
The collection had an early release from June 23, 2026 at Disney Flagship Tokyo, the Tokyo Disney Resort Store, and the official Disney Store online store, followed by a general release across all Disney Store Japan locations on June 26, 2026.
As with most Disney Store Japan seasonal collections, items are produced in limited quantities and availability varies by store — some designs may sell out faster than others, particularly the Secret Collection pouches and individual plush keychains.
