Disney stanDs Nightmare Before Christmas: Halloween Town's First Standing Plush Series

Disney Store Japan's standing plush series has covered a lot of ground since it launched — Mickey and friends, Pixar, the Princesses. It had never touched Tim Burton. That changed on 8 September 2026, when Halloween Town became the first Tim Burton property to enter the Disney stanDs range.

If you have been circling this collection from outside Japan and trying to work out what is actually in it, what the sizes are, and which piece is going to be a problem to get, this post covers all of it.

What is Disney stanDs?

Disney stanDs (ディズニースタンディーズ) is an original Disney Store Japan plush series built on one idea: every character stands up on its own. No stand, no wire, no propping against a book. The figures are small — most sit between 12cm and 24cm — with deliberately squat, deformed proportions and a muted, slightly faded colour palette that reads more like a collectible figure than a children's toy.

The series is designed around collecting. Each character is scaled to sit alongside the others, and Disney Store Japan releases them in themed waves so a shelf fills out over time. It has never been sold outside Japan.

Which characters are in the Nightmare Before Christmas wave?

Six releases, five of them single figures and one a three-character set.

Character Approx. height Notes
The Mayor 24cm Tallest in the wave; head rotates by hand
Jack Skellington 17.5cm The anchor piece
Sally 16.5cm Scaled to pair with Jack
Oogie Boogie 16.5cm Widest figure at 12cm across
Vampire Teddy 12.5cm Smallest figure; rarely merchandised
Lock, Shock & Barrel set 12–17cm each Includes the walking bathtub; two-store exclusive

All figures are polyester and rated for ages 6 and over.

The Mayor's head actually turns

This is the detail most coverage of the collection has skipped. The Mayor's head rotates by hand, so you can turn him from his cheerful campaigning face to his panicked one — the two-faced gag he runs throughout the film.

It is the only figure in the wave with a moving feature, and it is a genuinely unusual thing to build into a plush this small. If you are picking one piece from the collection and you care about the film rather than just the character roster, this is the interesting one.

The Lock, Shock and Barrel set is the difficult piece

Oogie Boogie's three henchmen come boxed together, and the set includes the walking bathtub — the lurching claw-footed tub they ride through Halloween Town. The bathtub is roughly 20cm deep and is not sold separately in any form, which means the only way to own it is this set.

Two things make this the hardest item in the collection to obtain:

It is not going to most Disney Stores. While the individual figures rolled out to Disney Store locations across Japan on 11 September 2026, the trio set launched only at Disney Flagship Tokyo and the Tokyo Disney Resort store. There is no wider retail rollout scheduled.

There is a per-person purchase limit. Disney Store Japan capped it at three per customer, alongside similar caps on the Mayor, Sally and Vampire Teddy.

If you want this set, treat it as a pre-order rather than something you can pick up later.

Why Vampire Teddy is worth attention

Vampire Teddy is on screen for a matter of seconds during "This Is Halloween" — a teddy bear with fangs, held up by a vampire in the crowd. He has almost never been merchandised in thirty years of Nightmare Before Christmas product.

At 12.5cm he is the smallest figure in the wave and the only one deeper than it is wide, so he sits comfortably in front of the taller characters instead of competing for shelf frontage. Obscure characters get the shortest production runs, and they are consistently the first to disappear from Japanese shelves and the first to appear on resale sites at a markup. If you are building the full set, get this one early.

When was it released?

  • 7 September 2026 — Disney Store Club Premium member presale opened online
  • 8 September 2026 — general online sale, plus in-store at Disney Flagship Tokyo and the Tokyo Disney Resort store
  • 11 September 2026 — rollout to other Disney Store locations across Japan

The staggered release matters if you are watching stock levels: strong early demand at the two flagship stores can clear inventory before the wider 11 September date.

The wider Halloween Town collection

The stanDs plush launched as part of a larger Nightmare Before Christmas range built on original tarot-card artwork of the Halloween Town cast. That collection includes monochrome tableware — teapot, cup and saucer, plates, a cake stand, and a condiment set modelled on the frog's breath and deadly nightshade containers from Sally's soup — plus Spirit Jersey long-sleeve tees, jigsaw puzzles, blankets, a Halloween countdown bag-charm advent calendar, and a seven-type secret keychain series.

If you are putting together a themed display rather than just collecting the plush, it is worth looking at the range as a whole and consolidating into one shipment.

Can you buy Disney stanDs from outside Japan?

Not directly. Disney Store Japan and its official online store do not ship internationally, and the online presale required a Japanese Disney Store Club account. Overseas collectors have three realistic options:

  1. Travel to Japan and buy in person. Note that release-day in-store purchases required a visit reservation through the Disney Store Club app.
  2. Use a forwarding address, which means holding a Japanese account and managing the domestic order yourself.
  3. Use a proxy service that buys at Japanese retail on your behalf.

LEALEA MART handles the third. We buy from Disney Store Japan at Japanese retail price, check each item before it ships, and send it direct to you anywhere in the world. For the Lock, Shock and Barrel set we buy in person at the two stocking stores.

Frequently asked questions

Is Disney stanDs available outside Japan? No. The series is exclusive to Disney Store Japan and its Japanese online store, neither of which ships internationally.

Do the plush actually stand up on their own? Yes. Standing unsupported is the defining feature of the series — the figures are shaped to hold themselves upright without a base or stand.

Which characters are in the Nightmare Before Christmas wave? Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero, Oogie Boogie, the Mayor and Vampire Teddy as individual figures, plus a Lock, Shock and Barrel set that includes the walking bathtub.

Is the Lock, Shock and Barrel set sold online? It launched at two Disney Store locations in Japan — Disney Flagship Tokyo and the Tokyo Disney Resort store — rather than across the chain. It is the most restricted item in the collection.

How big are they? Between roughly 12.5cm (Vampire Teddy) and 24cm (the Mayor). Most sit around 16–18cm.

Does the Mayor's head really turn? Yes. It rotates by hand, reproducing his two-faced switch from the film.

Can I get the walking bathtub separately? No. It comes only with the Lock, Shock and Barrel set.
